GMO Certification
Ascertaining the presence or absence of GMOs in samples across Zimbabwe.
The NBA is the National Competent Authority for the regulation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in Zimbabwe. Therefore, it is responsible for ascertaining the presence or absence of GMOs in samples in Zimbabwe.
Certification Procedure
Company Registration
Before a company can apply for a GMO certificate, it must register with the NBA.
Application Submission
Applicant completes and submits the application form to the NBA.
Sample Collection
An NBA Inspector collects a sample of the product to be tested.
Payment of Testing Fee
Applicant pays the prescribed testing fee as determined by the NBA.
GMO Testing
The NBA laboratory conducts GMO testing of the collected sample.
Issuance of GMO Certificate
Upon successful testing, the NBA issues a GMO Certificate confirming the presence or absence of GMOs.

For exporters requiring documentation that products contain no known genetically modified varieties.
In cases when exporters want to export samples of products with no known genetically modified varieties, a GMO Declaration is issued. This is a document from the NBA stating that the product is not genetically modified.
Declaration Procedure

Applicant completes and submits the application form to the NBA.
Payment of Fee
Applicant pays the prescribed declaration fee as determined by the NBA.
Issuance of GMO Declaration
Upon successful processing, the NBA issues a GMO Declaration confirming the product is not genetically modified.

GMO certification and declarations are governed by the National Biotechnology Authority Act [Chap.14:31] of 2006 and the Biosafety Regulations, which designate the NBA as the National Competent Authority for GMO regulation in Zimbabwe.
